Cody ~ Des Moines Christian School {Class of 2020}

I’m excited to share Cody’s Senior session with you today!

Cody graduated from Des Moines Christian School in August with the Class of 2020, and has plans to further his education in Actuarial Science at Iowa State University this fall.

Cody is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Kind. Smart. Funny. And crazy cool soccer skills. More on that later 😜

I first met Cody’s mom through my sister-in-law several years ago and had the pleasure of photographing their family for the first time a few years ago. Needless to say I was thrilled when she asked me to do Cody’s senior pictures!

I always encourage my clients to select locations that mean something to them personally, keeping in mind the location’s aesthetics of course. What better place to do photos than at their home which backs up to a gorgeous wooded area. He loves spending time in the woods with his beloved dog, Sheba.

Mom selected this one for the wall ❤️

Props aren’t necessary for senior pictures but if your High School Senior has hobbies and interests that they would like to incorporate into their photo experience, by all means bring them! Cody loves to play the guitar so we made sure to get some shots of him playing.

I think Sheba liked it!

Our next stop was along a creek here in town, and this has quickly become my new personal favorite location to photograph at. This place is absolutely stunning in the fall! The leaves hadn’t changed color too much yet when we were there but it still photographed beautifully.

To go along with Cody’s love of music, he brought along a couple of his favorite pieces of vinyl. Just like locations, choose props that really mean something to you.

I always try to get a photo of the grad with Mom. Nothing fancy, just something to help both of them to remember this time. Cody’s mom wasn’t too excited about getting in the picture at first (I totally sprang it on her…my bad!) but she reluctantly agreed after much persuasion, and ultimately loved the image so much she added it to his album.

We wrapped up the session at the sports field at Des Moines Christian School to capture Cody’s love of soccer. He has played soccer since he was a young kid, learning from his dad who continues to play himself. Cody’s sisters are soccer players too so it truly runs in the family.

Cody’s mom opted for a gorgeous textured wood print for the wall along with a 10” album with all of their favorite images from the session. These are beautiful heirloom keepsake that will last for years and years to come.

Albums can also serve dual duty as a signing book at the Graduation Open House too! Such a fun and memorable way to enjoy your photos. Imagine how much fun it will be for him to look back through these hand-written messages 20+ after graduation.

And that message from his sister inside the back cover? Priceless. #allthefeels

I didn’t really intend on doing a Sports Montage with Cody’s soccer pictures at the time we shot them, but I’m glad I played around with it! This looked absolutely incredible on canvas (this one is a 24x16 Gallery Wrap Canvas).
