{Welcome Baby Amelda} In-Hospital Lifestyle Newborn Photography, Des Moines, Iowa

What a privilege it was to be able to photograph sweet lil' Amelda, just 30-ish hours old!

In case you aren't familiar with in-hospital lifestyle newborn photography (or Fresh 48 Sessions as they're also called), these sessions are done at the hospital or birthing center within the first 48 hours (give or take) of baby's birth. These sessions are relaxed and baby-led, with no formal posing. The goal of these sessions is to capture your new family in these first couple of days, focusing on the connection between you and your baby.

Many hospitals have contracted photographers that come in to the hospital to do newborn sessions. The photographer will usually check in with a new mom when they happen to be there and ask if they would like to have their baby photographed.

While it's nice to have someone already there, you don't really have the option to schedule for a time that is ideal for you and your family. Although I truly love the photos we had done of our son, I was still in my hospital gown and didn't have time to change in to anything else (I'd had a c-section and was a hot mess). So, here I am, post c-section and in a hospital gown because if we wanted to have photos done, they had to be done right then and there because the photographer didn't have time to come back later. I was a hormonal mess and unfortunately that didn't help.

By planning ahead for your in-hospital newborn session with me, we will be in close communication to arrange for the best, most opportune time possible for me to come and photograph your new sweet baby. Need time to shower so you feel more human again before being photographed? Done! Would you rather wear comfortable pajamas in lieu of the standard hospital gown or wrap up in your favorite bath robe? Perfect! Yoga pants and a nursing top? Sure!

And if you want to keep it real and be in your hospital gown? Absolutely! It just wasn't my cup of tea :)

Since I only share photos with a signed Model Release, I'm only featuring images here with Autumn and Amelda today. Daddy and Grandma & Grandpa were there too but I didn't have my release forms with me that day at the hospital, so today we'll focus on mom & baby.

Having a baby soon and want to capture those first few hours of life or your baby?  I'd love to visit with you!  Contact me for a no-obligation consultation to learn more.
